5 Months Old

Ethan has had a very busy month of growing, playing, and finally rolling over. He's an expert back-to-tummy roller, but has some difficulty rolling from his tummy to his back. So these days his favorite game is to roll onto his tummy and then yell for mom to roll him back over. Hmmm....hopefully he learns to roll back on his own soon. He loves to eat rice cereal with apple juice but isn't too thrilled with his first vegetable - peas. His expression when he tastes it is priceless! Other favorites this month include jumping in the bouncer (without a foot stool!); chewing on his feet; going on stroller rides; chewing on everything in sight (darn teething); drinking water out of mommy's yellow cup; standing with help; kicking, chewing, and getting stuck in his crib bars (hence the new bumper pads); and staying up all night. Ethan is still up several times a night (no matter what we've tried...and believe us - we've tried it all), so I guess he is just destine to be our little party animal. But no matter how little he sleeps at night or naps during the day, he is still a pretty happy baby - always, cooing, giggling, and smiling. He was especially happy to see uncle Dan, aunt Mary Jo, and cousins Jocelyn and Chelsey at Easter time!

We never know how he'll wake up in the crib these days.

4 months

It's hard to believe that Ethan is already 4 months old! He had his 4-month appointment and second round of shots on April 1. He weighed just about 17 lbs. and was 25 inches. A big boy! It's no surprise that he wears 6-9 month clothing already. The doctor suggested that it's probably time for solids, so he now eats rice cereal with apple juice, which he loves. Unfortunately, it doesn't get him to sleep any longer at night. Ever since he was sick for that three-week span, he has been up every 1-2 hours every single night. We don't know if he just got used to being up that often or what, but nothing works to make him sleep longer...and we've tried everything. It is exhausting for us, but somehow he wakes up happy every morning. He is very smiley and giggly and loves to constantly move and be entertained. Once he starts crawling and walking, we are pretty sure he will be into absolutely everything! He's usually a very vocal baby, but is a little shy around strangers until he warms up. He's also very alert and "snoopy" and refuses to sleep whenever we have company over or when we are out in public. He is always wide-eyed and active (but fortunately quiet) in church!
